DEANNE CALISTHENICS CLUB INC

Thank you for your interest in Deanne Calisthenics Club. The Club looks forward to the prospect of having you/your child/children join us for a rewarding and most satisfying sporting experience. If your child has never done calisthenics before and just wants to try it before fully committing, please be aware that the FIRST TWO classes (of Term One only) are ABSOLUTELY FREE for first-timers!

WHAT IS CALISTHENICS?

Calisthenics is a sport combining the strength and agility of gymnastics, grace and poise of ballet, and precision of figure marching and apparatus work. All items are costumed, choreographed, set to music and presented by our teams on stage at four competitions and one concert each year. All participants, regardless of their experience or ability, compete in the majority of items. After several generations of exclusive female membership, Calisthenics now accepts boys in our younger teams.

THE BENEFITS OF CALISTHENICS

Calisthenics encourages children to be fit, happy and active at a level appropriate to their needs and capabilities. At Deanne, we encourage all participants to strive for their personal best and aim to ensure that all classes are enjoyable learning experiences. Calisthenics helps children increase their confidence and self-esteem in a friendly and caring environment. Due to the nature of calisthenics, participants learn how to be a member of a team, to savour the pride of winning and to show dignity in defeat.  Most importantly we hope that all participants enjoy themselves throughout the year.

Unfortunately parental attendance at class is restricted because the participants tend to be distracted by movement, chatter or a familiar face! This is particularly true of the Tinies age group where there are enough interruptions already (trips to the toilet, etc.!).  Therefore, from Week 3 of Term One, all parents who choose to remain at class will be asked to wait in the foyer where they can get to know the other mums and dads.

SUB-JUNIORS, JUNIORS, INTERMEDIATES & SENIORS

TO COMPETE IN BALLARAT

Deanne has a tradition of sending the Sub-Junior, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teams to the Ballarat Competitions each year. Families should be aware that registration is an acceptance of this commitment, so that this competition can continue to be a worthwhile and successful experience for all concerned.

HOW MUCH PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IS REQUIRED?

As a non-profit organization, Deanne Calisthenics understandably relies heavily on parental volunteers. Parents are required to help at competitions and fundraising events during the year as allocated to your child’s team.  In addition each family is required to assist with costuming in some way, for example, sewing, sequining, props construction.

ANY QUESTIONS

If you have questions regarding Registration or any other aspect of our Club, please do not hesitate to contact me on the numbers/addresses listed at the top of this letter. Please keep in mind that we would like to see our Club grow even bigger and stronger this year. Therefore, if you have any friends, cousins, sisters, etc. who might be interested in trying out this wonderful sport with Deanne, I would love to hear from them as well.

Welcome to the calisthenics year, I hope you have an enjoyable and rewarding year.

Yours in Calisthenics
