Team News - 2010
Deanne competition this weekend!
Well what an exciting time! No doubt we’ll all have a busy weekend but it will be wonderful to see all of our girls on stage in their 1st team competition of the year.
Remember our girls can attend any session for just $2 if they are wearing their Deanne jackets & any parents that fulfill a duty can also attend one other session for just $2. Which is our way of saying thanks for your help in running this comp, we couldn’t do it without every family helping and it is vitally important to Deanne.
Speaking of which, we must all send a HUGE vote of thanks to Sue L who is coordinating our comp this year – Thanks Sue!

There’s no ACT senior rep team this year but we are also represented by a number of soloists:

Inter GG Taylor C
Senior GG Caitlin J, Caitlin T & Claire A
Caitlin J has also gained selection to represent Deanne & the ACT in Ballarat’s Most Graceful Girl competition. Congratulations everyone!
Whilst we are on the subject of soloists; thank you to all the girls, parents & coaches that contributed to the successful running of the solo comps this year, there’s too many to list here so look out for details of our participants & results in our concert program & well done to all of our beautiful girls - we’re very proud of you all.
Coaches Training
Congratulations to the following girls who have completed or undertaken coaches training this year:
Completion of Level 1: Amy & Caitlin J
Level 1 coursework: Caitlin T, Meredith K & Kyra
Cadet course: Keely W, Bethany T, Meredith K, Jessica B & Ashlea A
Calisthenics Skills Exams
Skills classes are an optional, individual activity & are highly recommended. Classes will be held again later this year; enrolment will be due by the 1st of Sept, classes will run for 5 weeks from the 16th of October & Exams will be held over the weekend of the 20th & 21st of November.
These exams are based on our core skills, aim at improving technique & are offered at a variety of levels including Tests 1-3 for the younger girls, Grades 1 through 4 @ Juniors - Seniors & culminating in Medals for the most capable senior participants. Certificates & badges are awarded so they are a great individual achievement. Look out for more info on this later in the year & speak to your coaches for advice as to the appropriate exam for your child. (Grade 2 is required for anyone wanting to embark on a coaching career!)
Finally, Happy Birthday to our wonderful Vice President Danielle Ryan, I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing you a relaxing, peaceful day but somehow with the Deanne comp happening I doubt that will happen!

Intermediates
Hi everyone
Practice: The team will practice from 5.30 to 8.30 pm on Wednesday nights at Stirling College
(Weston Campus, Canberra College) for the remainder of the year.
All girls are expected to work as a team, know all the routines and do extra practice at home each week. They are also expected to be available for ALL comps throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you at training about 10 minutes before 5.30 pm so that you can be ready to go on time. If you are going to be late, please let Barry know . Don’t forget your water bottle, rods, clubs and skirts. We would also like to officially welcome our new Families to Deanne this year, along with all those girls who came up from Juniors last year.
Fundraising: We have already begun fundraising in order to reduce the costs of activities such as Ballarat with chocolates for sale. These will be available all year so if you have a good market we can get you more to sell. See Barry to acquire more stock. The Club has booked a number of time slots for BBQ/Sausage Sizzles at Bunnings and other locations throughout the year and we will periodically seek your help to work these events. In addition to these, we would love to hear of any novel ideas that will generate funds for the team and seek your involvement in the fundraising activities.
Parents: We value your support as parents to support the girls at home in encouraging regular practice and stretching to improve their skills. We also love to see you at all comps to cheer the teams on and meet other parents. We will be seeking your help to run the Deanne physical competition through canteen, door and other duties.
Competition supplies: Ruth Mills has been chasing up eyelashes and lipsticks for competitions and has secured both for $17 per girl. Could you please pay Barry for these directly over the next couple of weeks at training, rather than through bank transfer, as this will go to reimburse Ruth. We are looking at tanning the girls on the Thursday before the first team comp at Stirling College at a cost of $10 per girl but will get you the details when these are final. We will also seek some money to buy food on comp day. This will be around $5 per girl but we will ask for this closer to the day.
Deepest Sympathies: There have been quite a number of girls and their parents who have had grandparents/parents pass away in the last couple of months. On behalf of Deanne Inters, we would like to pass on our condolences to all those families that have lost a loved one.
Ballarat: The schedule for Ballarat will be out in about a week - we expect that we will compete in the last week of October (possibly 27th) so please keep the middle of the last week of October free. With such a large group we will need assistance from other parents with food preparation and possibly also chaperoning, so if you are able to help please let us know. Several parents have indicated an interest in helping out. We anticipate that we may need to obtain the airfare component from you over the next month to secure airline bookings. Last year this was $150 and will likely be similar this year. The airfare component is needed in advance of the remainder of the Ballarat costs as the club cannot carry it for all girls pending full payment of costs.
Fees and other payments: Term two fees are now due. For single girls they are $180.00 for the term, additional children receive a 10% discount on the second fees. We are also seeking the $25.00 concert fee. This funds the end of year concert and is charged on families only and not for each girl.
Direct payment details:
Please contact us directly or email the clubs treasurer for
Bank Details
Please do not forget that we need a copy of your direct debit receipt for our records.
Championship competition - solo, graceful and duo: The final competition for this year’s solo and duo season is being held at Erindale theatre this weekend, starting Friday night. Best wishes to all competing. Come along and cheer your team mates on.
Your team managers are here to help so if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us. The girls are looking good and have made great progress so far. We anticipate that merchandise ordered will arrive in a few weeks.
Best wishes
Lois Ransom
